Thank God for the Mayor...

Or so a number of Knox County Commissioners must feel in their heart of hearts. The wealth of blunders, misdeeds, misdemeanors, deceptions and outright lies that will be the legacy of the current administration has at least partially concealed the ineptness of commission. Consider these commission "accomplishments" from the recent past:

  • commission could do no better than trim $300,000 in fat from the current budget, an almost meaningless sum
  • commission was unable to support even the most modest - and long overdue - property tax increase to support education, libraries, road maintenance, etc
  • many continue to seek "work arounds" to the state's public meetings law
  • "What is our 'TIF limit'?" is a question that continues to be asked
  • and speaking of TIFs, commission let sail through without debate nominations to the Industrial Development Board that are sure to gladden the heart of all developers eager to feed at the public trough

I could go on, but why provide further solace to the Mayor's camp; commission is accomplishing that without assistance from yours truly. Not every member of commission wears a black hat, but enough do to provide a gang of rowdy extras in a Wild West shoot-em-up.

Sigh.
